Growing a Perennial Edible Garden

Learn how to plan and grow a low maintenance edible garden with perennial vegetables and fruit. You will learn:

  • How to prepare your ground and support systems for planting in the first year.

  • Planning for biodiversity and productivity. 

  • The kinds of polycultures that work for your space.

  • Layered planting of herbs, vegetables, shrubs, and small trees. 

  • The goal is to spend less time cultivating and more time enjoying a healthy garden

  • Harvesting nutritious food from your garden.

GROW YOUR OWN SPROUTS AND MICROGREENS

Learn how to grow microgreens and sprouts in your own apartment. Did you know that both sprouts and microgreens are a great addition to your juices and smoothies? In this fun and hands-on workshop, we will guide you step-by-step to get you started and teach you how to make tasty and nutritious snacks with various sprouts & microgreens.

planning and growing your own edible urban garden

Climate zone : Northern European temperate and North America zones 6-9

Informative and interactive workshop on how to plan your own edible, urban garden in small spaces like balconies, window sills, allotments or roof terraces. Herbs, salads, vegetables, berries, edible flowers and a surprising variety of other plants can thrive with very little space if you know which plants to grow and how to care for them. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and gardeners with some experience. You'll learn how to create a basic crop plan, ready to start growing your own healthy food!

BULDING HEALTHY SOIL

What is soil? How does it impact the health of our plants? How can we check its health? And how can we improve it? In this workshop we will learn the essentials about soil and composting systems.

We will study different strategies for building healthy soil such as mulching, leaf mould, crop rotation, homemade liquid fertilisers and composting both outdoors and indoors, with a special focus on worm composting.

After the workshop you will be able to decide what is the best approach to improve the soil health of your own urban garden.

FERMENTING VEGETABLES: MAKE YOUR OWN KIMCHI

It's easy and fun to learn to make delicious and gut-health promoting Korean Kimchi! We'll be using a traditional recipe shared with us by Yeon Choi. Kimchi can be spicy, sour, strong flavoured or mild. It is a traditional Korean food preservation technique using natural fermentation, and the perfect activity for an autumn evening. No experience necessary. You'll go home with a jar of fresh kimchi! Workshop given by Suzanne.

Getting started with plant-based diets

Eating plant-based diets is good for our health and has a less harmful environmental impact than eating a diet full of meat, dairy and processed foods. Plant-based diets does not mean being vegan. It means getting a majority of your nutrition from fresh, unprocessed plant based ingredients. 

We all have our own journey with food. This customised workshop will enable you to get the information you need to help you transition to a healthier diet by creating a personalised diet plan that suits your needs.
