PERMACULTURE COMMUNITY BERLIN

Do you want to get to know the core of Permaculture?
In 2022, Permaculture Circle will focus on in-depth learning and application of the Permaculture Principles.

Permaculture Circle is an ongoing series of once-a-month “community workshops”.

Our monthly ‘Circles’ are structured around the 12 Permaculture Principles (one Principle per session) and always include an activity, skill or resource related to the principle - for example, our sixth session on Principle #6 ‘Produce No Waste’ will include an introduction and in-depth discussion, as well as a relevant and practical skill to apply it: e.g. full-spectrum composting. These activities are not pre-programmed but catered entirely to participants - what do you want to learn? What do you want to share?

In Permaculture Circle, the roles of teaching and learning are fluid. We are here to learn together. We do this with the help of a variety of collective decision-making processes, which you will also learn to implement for personal use. Our Circles are highly interactive, flexible and participatory, and participants are encouraged and supported to lead their own skill-shares and present related topic material if they feel called (and would like) to do so.

This group is for previous Cityplot workshop participants and those new to Cityplot, Permaculture Enthusiasts at all levels & Ecological Urbanites. For those who want to learn more about the core of Permaculture and how it can be applied.

All experience levels are welcome.

Why focus on the Principles?

At the core of Permaculture are a set of Ethics and Principles that guide us in designing connections, flows and beneficial relationships between various elements (be that in our gardens, our businesses or our personal lives). While Permaculture itself is no one technique or process, these 3 Ethics and 12 Principles are the foundation of a Permaculture system or approach. The Principles can be seen as guidelines to achieving and staying true to the Ethics of Permaculture - Earth Care, People Care & Fair Share. By looking at one Principle per Circle, we will evolve our understanding of how each principle can guide our lifestyle choices. Engaging with the Principles at the heart of Permaculture is fundamental to understanding how we can have a positive impact on the world around us.

LEONIE WOIDT-WALLISSER

Kalliope was born and raised in Bali, Indonesia – an island transformed from tropical wilderness to top tourist destination in the two short decades of her life there. Looking for ways to make sense of her changing world, Kalliope left home to study Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam and explored the intersection between environmental degradation and social inequality.

From there, Kali completed a PDC in Portugal and is currently a student-practitioner of somatic therapy, a combination she feels addresses People & Earth Care in a holistic and hands-on way.
Kali longs to live life learning and acting from a deep love for the planet and all the beings who live here together.

Leonie has a background in architecture, the fine arts and permaculture. Since having left her family’s off-grid homestead and extensive garden in small-town South Australia, she has lived amongst the urban populations of Australia, Germany, the US and the Netherlands. Her theoretical research in restoration ecology in the cultural sector, undertaken as part of studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, triggered her to initiate Cityplot in 2007. She co-coordinates the workshop programme and gardens in Berlin.

Leonie has many years of experience teaching and consulting in multiple facets of permaculture: food growing systems; community building and social systems; architecture, urban and landscape planning; natural building and construction with upcycled materials; nature connections and spiritual ecology; holistic and regenerative practices on all levels; and beyond. Life coming full-cycle, step-by-step she nears a self-sufficient lifestyle and delves ever deeper into the worlds of ethnobotany and deep ecology.

Leonie strongly believes that there is not a problem, which cannot be solved through tapping into the heartbeat of the Earth - and that even the smallest of garden plots will help get you there!
