The process of taking the grounds from the cafe (Town Mouse) out to Wald&Wild permaculture food forest is pretty straightforward. Such connections foster community building and also literally build healthy soil. This handholding collaboration helps with building our sandy soil into lovely rich humus.
Here you can see Leonie picking up the containers of coffee grounds in the city and transporting it to the country plot. She loads it into the wheelbarrow and then straight onto the garden beds in a thick layer. The only thing to be careful about is that after a rainfall the grounds can get compacted and form an impenetrable cakey layer once it dries. So once in a while, it’s necessary to just take a stick and poke some holes through to allow air and water in.
